Valve Leak Inspection (Acoustic Emission)

Valve Leak Inspection (Acoustic Emission) V.E.L.D

Valves that leak internally can lead to major losses of valuable product, or unintended transfer of process constituents, in some cases seriously elevating process risks. Evaluating the condition of in-service valves that process fluids is difficult. Diagnostic methods that require valve movements often cannot be utilized while the plant is in operation and this affects on how future maintenance or valve replacement scopes are being planned. As a result, operators often fall into the situation where a good valve is being taken off for maintenance that is not necessary required, or no maintenance is planned at all for a bad valve.

Preveld Oil & Gas Sdn. Bhd.'s V.E.L.D system is capable to examine the valve trim condition on closed, in-service valves by detecting valve seat leakage through the application of Acoustic Emission (AE). The inspection does not require valve movements, thus does not affect plant operation. During leakage, fluid loss is accompanied by acoustic energy loss. Paired with the experience, Preveld Oil & Gas Sdn. Bhd. is able to relate the measured AE to quantify the valve leakage rate. With this valuable information obtained beforehand, operators will be able to plan on whether a valve must be repaired immediately, at an upcoming plant shutdown, or deferred to a future date.
